Apache ZooKeeper and the Fallacies of Distributed Computing

About Henry Cai

In this talk, Patrick describes typical issues faced in a distributed computing environment — network reliability, latency, topology change and so on that made building a distributed system hard historically, and how ZooKeeper makes life easier.

Patrick covers the design, use cases, and API of ZooKeeper, along with detailed examples on its data models. Here at Airbnb, ZooKeeper is an essential piece of our infrastructure, helping us with service discovery, configuration management, and Chronos dependency management.
